I wanted to post about our recent post-COVID-19 Lock down stay.
We stayed 4th July for 3 nights staying in Room 7 and Room 5.
We were sent instructions before arrival with details of how the B&B is operating at the moment and these were very thorough. From the moment we booked we knew we had made the right decision to go so soon after lockdown, as these instructions showed Nigel and Juliette were on the ball with what they needed to be doing.
The house as always was clean, tidy and very welcoming. We called when we arrived and were invited inside when Nigel was ready to greet us. The new normal for prepayment, distance at check in, opened doors and closed behind you, key in your room door and the one-way system, worked great!
The bedrooms were clean as always and had instructions in there for replacing towels etc (as they are not allowed to service your rooms whilst you stay, this was fine for us) They even left a few wipes in the room which was a nice touch, but the room was that spotless, that I used these before checkout to antibac the high touch areas, before they would need to enter the room after.
Since staying in room 7 before, the bed has been replaced and a fan was already in the wardrobe, this room is our favourite. The bed is now HUGE, comfortable and the fan was a great addition for us, as we always sleep with one on at home.
Breakfast as always was AMAZING! Nigel was the perfect cook (and also the morning musical entertainment) and Juliette did a fab job as maitre d', she remembered your daily order, juice request, hot drink likes and was always on hand for anything extra or a good old chat (always at a safe distance for herself and you) once breakfast was made, it was placed on a table and you were able to collect the plates, no issues with this as normally you would be helping yourself to the self-service part of breakfast anyway!
We had afternoon tea with prosecco on arrival and this was tasty, excellent value and a great portion. We also ordered a packed lunch each day (a steal at £5 per person for freshly made lunch) again every day these were great.
Although a stay here is slightly different to the 'norm', Nigel and Juliette remain the greatest of hosts, they are fully aware of their responsibilities to be COVID-19 Secure and this certainly made us enjoy our stay feeling safe and sound whilst on their premises.
Make sure you do pre-book for meals out, or perhaps talk to these guys to see if they are doing an evening meal, as all of their food is amazing.
Keep up the good work guys, we can't wait to come back already.

Relaxing staycation in Torquay B & B
We have just returned from a four-night stay at the impressive Heathcliff House in Torquay, amid all the worries of COVID 19 and the lockdown, we decided to travel to this lovely establishment, with all the government rules in place, our safety was made No 1 priority.
A warm welcome from the owner Nigel was given, we were then taken to our room No 6, spotlessly clean and delightfully decorated. We then
enjoyed a welcome drink in the lounge bar, Where Nigel's wife Juliette came in to welcome us to their lovely home.
This is our second visit this year, and we were not disappointed. It is such a lovely location for touring around the county of Devon, you can drive,
ample parking, take the bus (No.12) bus stop outside, or
take the train.
Nigel and Juliette have worked tirelessly during this difficult time, to make our stay most
enjoyable. We most enjoyed the wonderful
breakfast, with much choice offered, while complying to the
new rules for social distancing.
If you are looking for a relaxing stay away in Torquay, we cannot praise this lovely B&B too much! It really is like going to stay at your friend’s
home.

Listen as Ali answers a few questions about why she loves Heathcliff House and South Devon so much
"It's like coming to stay with friends....."
Listen to Jean answer a few questions from Juliette on why she and Andy like Heathcliff House and the #EnglishRiviera so much and just keep coming back
"Everyone is so friendly, nothing is too much trouble, that's why we keep coming back!"
Perfect
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by both Nigel and Juliette. They are clearly very proud of their beautiful home with it's wonderful Agatha Christie connection and quite right too! We were shown to our room after being informed about the breakfast room and residents lounge and were given all the information we needed. The room was SPOTLESSLY clean, had an amazing outlook and came complete with homemade biscuits, fresh fruit and fresh milk in the little fridge. The tea/coffee supplies were plentiful and replenished daily. The bathroom was SPOTLESSLY clean and some rather nice toiletries had been provided, including body lotion! The residents lounge/bar is comfortable, well stocked and fairly priced, with an honesty sheet should Nigel or Juliette not be on hand. This is clearly not misused, which in itself speaks volumes about the levels of respect these two amazing hosts easily earn! Should ANYTHING be needed, they are never more than a quick ring of the bell away, and appear with a beaming smile and a ready answer. The breakfast is AMAZING. Beautiful homemade preserves, muffins etc, a great choice of teas, coffee and juices, good selection of cereals and two different natural yogurts and fresh fruit. The hot selection was plentiful, freshly cooked to order, locally sourced and blooming tasty! The mushrooms! Oh my days! Dietary requirements are catered for, with gluten free alternatives for another in our party always available. The service is prompt but not rushed, friendly but not invasive and always with a smile! The extra touches from Juliette and Nigel take this kind of establishment from good to brilliant and are much appreciated. There is always the option to book a cream tea (homemade of course!), packed lunches - the list is endless. The motto here is arrive as guests, leave as friends - we certainly did. Nigel and Juliette were born to do this - they are VERY knowledgeable about the area, the public transport, the theatres, the cinemas and other local events. They even joined us in the bar one evening for a quiz.

Simply the Best
Heathcliff House is one of those previously undiscovered gems that you are almost afraid to tell others about as it's so good that you want to (selfishly) keep a secret!
Everything about it is excellent -
The location - ideal for all public transport and easy walk into Torquay.
The food - we had breakfast everyday and a (homemade) Devon cream tea. Much of the foodstuffs provided are either homemade or locally sourced and delicious!
The stay - We stayed in room 8 - very comfortable large bed and fridge with fresh milk.
The lounge/bar - well stocked with local beers and cider (lovely).
The prices - so much less than many comparable establishments in the area (we've tried a few).
And last, but by no means least - the owners.
Nigel & Juliette Ede's motto is “Arrive as guests, leave as friends”. We were treated as old friends from the moment we arrived - they really were splendid in all respects. Again, such a refreshing change from some other establishments we've stayed in! It's clearly obvious why they keep winning awards!
Can't praise this place highly enough - we will definitely be returning.

A comfortable guest house at a great price
in a perfect location for all needs
Nigel and Juliette agreed to an arrival/check in time up to 3 hours after their usual check in. This was critical to our travel and weekend plans. Their welcome is always very warm and friendly. Their rooms are always well serviced and impeccably clean. Breakfasts are the best we have experienced in any hotel worldwide. Ingredients are locally sourced. Jams, butters and yoghurt is made in house. There is a bar on the premises that is a popular and friendly meeting place for evening drinks. The hotel location is on a main bus route to the town, beach and shops. Close to the local Rail station and local pubs. Nigel and Juliette work extremely hard to ensure that their accommodation is as homely and comfortable as possible for all their guests. They have big personalities and warm hearts.

Nigel and Juliette are fabulous hosts, they made us feel very welcome and immediately comfortable. We were surprised by all the little extra touches like home-made scones, jam, biscuits, butter! Nothing is too much trouble for Nigel and Juliette, they are two of the nicest people we have ever met. We would definitely recommend Heathcliff House, the rooms are clean, well maintained, the locally sourced food is excellent, and the hosts and staff are friendly and helpful. We love the feeling of being home from home as you walk through the door. We cannot fault Heathcliff House in any way. The location is excellent and for those who don’t want to walk far there are bus stops just outside the front door. We can’t wait to visit again this year!

The location was very good to get to by car or train. The welcome was very friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent and freshly cooked with fresh local products. The rooms were value for money and very clean. We would stay again as nothing was too much trouble for the owners.

We are always given a warm and friendly reception and are sure of a relaxed and comfortable stay at Heathcliff House. Our first stay was a last minute one night stay to attend a funeral. Other places would not allow one night stays, Nigel and Juliette not only allowed this but let us book in early morning to change our clothes prior to attending the funeral. Heathcliff House is near public services and as they have a car parking space for each room parking is guaranteed. We think Heathcliff House offers excellent value for money. The thing that makes us stay again is that we “arrived as guests but left as friends”, Nigel and Juliette are committed to making your stay, relaxed and pleasant. We are looking forward to our next stay already when we will be visiting the Devon and Exeter Agriculture Show.
